St Gregory & St Patrick's Catholic Infant School

Welcome to our Nursery

Science Week

The Nursery children thoroughly enjoyed Science Week! We planted our own beanstalks, experimented with changing colours, finding mini-beasts in our outdoor area and creating a chemical reaction.

Nursery would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Savage for donating a large box of ‘Build It’ construction. The children have thoroughly enjoyed building some interesting creations whilst developing their fine motor skills.

This week we celebrated Chinese New Year. We enjoyed a range of activities which included: cooking with Mrs Wang, making paper lanterns, dancing like a Chinese dragon, making and playing a paper drum and listening and dancing to Chinese music. The children also had a go at writing the Chinese symbols for numbers

Pancakes

We celebrate Pancake Day today. We discussed the meaning behind this day and we talked about our favourite toppings. The most popular topping was chocolate spread! The children made their own pancakes with help from an adult but they didn’t need any help eating them! The children thought the pancakes were delicious because they were soft and sweet.

St Patrick’s Day

Nursery celebrated St Patrick’s Day.

We read a story about the life of St Patrick and we learned how he used a shamrock to teach people the holy trinity. We made shamrock hats, baked shamrock biscuits and acted out St Patrick’s story on our pirate ship.

World book day

Nursery had a great World Book Day! We loved coming into school in our pyjamas and reading our favourite books. Two parents very kindly volunteered to read us a story in the morning. They read ‘What the ladybird heard’ by Julia Donaldson and ‘Bumble Bear’ by Nadia Shireen. Little Red Riding Hood also delivered some biscuits for us to share.

On Thursday we had a fantastic time exploring in the snow. We enjoyed painting and mark making, making snow cakes and iced drinks, describing the patterns of our footprints and caring for our insects in our bug hotel.

Big bird watch

On Friday the children enjoyed taking part of the school’s Big Bird Watch. We made bird seed pictures to attract the birds to our outdoor area and used our binoculars to try and spot different birds. For each bird we saw, we marked it on our recording sheet.
