St Gregory & St Patrick's

Welcome to the Year 2 home learning page. Here you will find planning and resources linked to what we are doing in school if your child is off for a long period of time. The planning is split into: Maths, English, Phonics, Spelling, Reading, Science and Topic. The teachers in Year 2 will be adding new content weekly so please keep a look out.

Here are some top tips on how to navigate around the page...

  • Find an area of the curriculum such as English
  • Click on the download document underneath the planning
  • Open up the planning there you will find a day by day/step by step guide on on how and what you are teaching your child

World Book Day 2021 - Thursday 4th March 2021

World Book Day is a charity on a mission to help change children’s lives by making reading together and reading for pleasure a habit for life.

Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator for success in life, more than family circumstances, educational background, or income (Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development).

Sharing stories together for just ten minutes a day will encourage a love of reading and it’s fun for everyone! You can read together anywhere and everywhere, from breakfast to bedtime! In the park, on the train, on the sofa, on a plane – reading and sharing stories can happen anywhere at any time.

This year, we would like our Year 2 children to recreate their favourite story through art. They can create a 'shoebox' scene from their favourite book. Have a look at the images below for some inspiration.

Reading

Reading is an important part of your child's learning. Taking the time to sit and read with your child is the most beneficial way of getting your child to read. Please aim to read with your child 5 times a week.

Please use the eBooks on the Oxford owl website. To find out which books your child is currently reading, please refer to your reading record, where it will inform you of the book band colour and which phonics phase this is.

Go to www.oxfordowl.co.uk

Click on 'Oxford Owl' for school - Login In.

Type in the class name and password (under the student section).
