PE Policy

St Gregory and St Patrick's Catholic Infant School's Physical Education vision is:

At St Gregory and St Patrick's, we want all of our children to understand the importance of, and have an enjoyment in physical activity, as well as an appreciation of a healthy lifestyle which stays with them as they move forward in their lives.  We recognise that PE can teach through the physical, and it offers a large contribution to children’s physical and mental well-being.  Through our curriculum provision, we ensure children are exposed to a wide range of sporting activities, including; net games, invasion games, striking/fielding activities, dance types, gymnastics and outdoor related activities

The delivery of PE, is delivered by class teachers and is supported by our external sports coaches; who work with teachers and children on a rotational basis. In our school, the teachers work alongside: Mr Marshall, who helps deliver multi-skills, Mr Pearson, who helps to deliver cricket and Mrs Mason, who helps to deliver gymnastics.

When the opportunity arises, we also take part in different sporting events such as a whole school sports day and participating in local competitions. We promote a healthy and active lifestyle within the community; encouraging children's participation in after school sports clubs and competitions.

We also try and encourage our children and parents to carry out physical activities at home. Each class has a special 'PE bag' and every Friday, one child from each class gets the opportunity to take this bag home and carry out some physical activities at home (a variety of resources are included in the bag to support with the activities).

Sports Day 2022

This year we were lucky enough to be able to host our Sports Day and invite parents for the first time since 2019. We had 9 races for our 9 classes to rotate around so we were on the go all the time. Have a look at the photos below to see what we got up to on our sunny Sports Day!

Marathon Man comes to St Gregory and St Patrick's Catholic Infant School

On Friday 11th February 2022, we had the honour of sponsoring our local Marathon Man – Gary McKee and we were privileged to be able to run a mile alongside him. Gary McKee is a local legend who has taken on a huge challenge; running a whopping 365 marathons this year!  We supported Gary by getting sponsored (by our friends and family) to run alongside him for one mile!  Take a look at our superstars working up a sweat, challenging themselves and striving towards their end goal. Well-done children; we’re so proud of you!

We managed to raise £3458 for Gary’s chosen charities- McMillan Cancer Research UK and Cumbria Hospice at Home.
